Hi:
I live in Santa Fe, NM and I'm seriously thinking of spending next winter down in Florida doing some "good" art shows. I've been keeping a list of the ones all of you have recommended.
I just received a "Call to Artists" for a November show in Lake Mary, FL. Have any of you done this show? How was it?
Any comments will be much appreciated.
Thanks!!

You better research real carefully what shows you are going to try for in Florida, reason being:Height of tourist season, lodging costs are extra high;overabundance of shows and exhibitors, plus it is a long way to come. If you can get in at least two of the following shows and then bundle it with smaller ones, I would come, otherwise buyer beware.
Shows I recomend trying for are: Naples National (end of Feb.) Bonita Springs (Barry Witt shows), Mt. Dora, Ft. Myers, Coconut Grove and Artisgras,Gasparilla, Vero Beach and of course, Winter Park. If you don't have at least one or two of them, then it could be marginal--you could call it an extended vacation in Florida, and, look at the great tan you will have. I just can't thank you enough for taking the time to answer my Florida question. I will DEFINITELY try to get into at least one or two of the above list and, if I don't get into any, I'll just stay home and freeze all winter.....
Thanks again!!!
At the risk of repeating myslef....
This used to be a really nice show. It was held in one of those shopping center plus residence areas which meant you got a lot of traffic from people who lived there or who happened by to shop. It was never a big show but a reasonably lucrative filler show. I loved doing it, it was close to home and everyone was very friendly.
Then they got a new director and moved locations and doubled the number of artists. They tried to go from what was a nice community show into a big deal extravaganza. And along the way they forgot what makes a show, art and artists and even patrons. I could go on and on and I probably did somewhere else on this site.
There are other shows that weekend. I tried Halifax in Daytona Beach last year and it wasn't a whole lot better sales wise but artist treatment was a lot better. The other one that weekend is Dunedin and that is probably your best bet if you want to fill that weekend.
Hi Ariela,
You'll find a nice review of last year's show (and 7 comments) here, in the Blogs section of the website.
