Jury photo content

Is it ok or is it frowned upon to show a set of jewelry in one jury photo?  What I have done before is show the necklace big & put the earrings superimposed in one of the lower corners.  I also have lots of double sided pendants, so I will show the back side of the pendant in the other lower corner.  So... stay the same or show the other piece(s) like earrings & rings in separate photos?

  • Whenever I've done mock juries and slides like that came up, there was a unanimous decision from anyone who's ever been on a jury to not show a picture in a picture. That being said, there are shows you can get away with it and shows you can't. But it's better to have a good set of jury images that won't get you rejected based on adding inserts in Photoshop.

It's also questionable about having more than one piece per image. Something that you can get away with most of the time but... I'm currently aware of only one show that specifies one item per slide. That's Milwaukee Lakefront which requires six art images and no booth for their application. If anyone know of any other shows that specify one item per slide, please let me know.

Besides jewelers showing different pieces that sell as a set, potters also do the same when working with one glaze and sell pieces as a set. I'd like to hear from show directors and former (or present) jurors about what they've found to be appropriate.
