Juried Art Services new Image Size Requirements
Based on requests from art shows (and Lark Books), JAS has increased the uploaded image size up to 4,000 pixels long dimension. For the time being you can still upload images as small as 1400, but the minimum will be changed to 1800 pixels long dimension for the artists who want to continue to upload their ZAPP images.
The increase in size is for the art shows to be able to use your images to promote their shows. None of the changes effect how the jurors see your images. As the images are uploaded, they will still be reduced to 700 pixels long dimension, which is the enlarged size you see in your profiles and the size the jurors see. In case you're not aware of it, when you preview your applications on JAS, you're looking at the same screen the jurors see.

Will JAS applications have a check box that allows or disallows use for advertising and promotion as do the ZAPP shows?
umm - so does this mean that JAS is basically going to give over our images for advertising purposes which is why they need the larger format? Tell me I do not understand. When are artists going to get compensated for making all these other people rich while we flounder about with the disengaged public who is there for the food, kiddy cars, and beer thanks to the PROFESSIONAL PROMOTERS who do not promote art - only IFEA events for stupid people.
I was following directions I found on your website and making them 1920x1920. Is that still the right way to go?
The 1920x1920 is the ZAPP format. If you don't upload that size to ZAPP, and apply to any of the shows that project the images, ZAPP will reformat your images to that exact size and reduce quality by resaving your JPEG.
I have instructions on my web site for JAS that is the same as for ZAPP but without the borders. Here are the instructions I prepared years ago:

You can use ZAPP images for JAS but be aware that the JAS jurors see the images on a neutral gray background and the black ZAPP borders might be a distraction depending on what kind of artwork you have.
I've always prepared images for JAS without borders.
