Everyyear I deal with the frustration of having one of my favorite showsbeing disrespectful to us with their app check policy. They hired a newaccounting person at their campus a few years ago (Kenan Center inLockport, NY) and she claims that it is "illegal" to hold a check untilafter the jury meets. She has been told that just about every othershow out there does it, but she is adamant. The check must be cashed.
I love the show..100 American Craftsmen. They have an artist meetingon Sunday morning where issues are discussed and debated but nobodybrings up the check thing, even though most are irritated about it.(I've likened it to leaving 100 bucks at the door of Macy's just incase you buy something, but if you don't you'll get your money back ina few weeks.) I think most are afraid to make waves and lose the show.
I don't know about you guys, I'm assuming most are like me at thistime of the year. I am restocking supplies big time and sending outapps and having photos done and I have no shows until May. It is a bigsink hole, sucking up my meager operating capital. If all the shows didthis I'd be dead in the water.
If this show was an automatic "gimme" it would be one thing, but itis a highly competitive fine craft venue. I need as many of those as Ican find.
So, do I let it go now that I've vented to the choir? Or should theybe challenged in the name of making the good shows treat us fairly? Inevery other way, they respect and honor the craftsmen in the show.
It's such a thorn in my paw.
