Hello Art Fair Insiders Community :-),
My name is Claudia Batson. I am from Newark, NJ. My mom, Claudette Batson, and I recently started our own small business: Felicity's Creative Designs. We specialize in creating handcrafted fashion accessories using needlepoint on plastic canvas techniques. At the moment, we are focused on women's clutch purses, cross-body purses, wristlets, hair accessories, children's tote and in the jewelry section, we make, earrings, braclets and necklaces (to match purses, etc). We also do custom orders.
We recently started exhibiting at shows (May 2013). To date, we have done two (2) shows. We have three more lined up for the month of June. So far, we are loving it! Mom and I are completely new to this arena, so we are trying to learn as much as possible with great efficiency. Though this is new to us, and we have not been as 'successful' as we would have liked so far (in each of the shows we have done to date), we are appreciative of all the opportunities we have had to meet and interact with so many new people. We are looking to do many more shows before the summer (and year) comes to a close.
I am pleased to be apart of this community because I know I will learn a great deal from you all! I will also share my knowledge and 'know-how(s)' with you from my past and present experiences.
I am currently working on my website and will update my profile with my web address as soon as it is ready. I will invite you to check it out once it is completed.
Thanks so much for allowing me to be apart of this wonderful community.
Claudia.

Hi Claudia and welcome to AFI :) Sounds like an exciting time ahead for you and your mom!
Thanks Annette! Looking forward to all the exciting times ahead indeed!
Hi Claudia! A mother/daughter team is interesting. Do you each have certain duties? Tell us how it works.
Hey Pat! Thanks for the comment/query! Yes, we have our assigned duties. My mom learned the needlepoint on canvas technique as a child. She has developed her own styles and techniques as well, which she uses on our designs. She's mainly responsible for the needlepoint work and 'creative designs' :-) along with managing the inventory. I do everything else :-). I work on the interior of our bags: adding the metalware (snaps, closures), lining, sewing, etc. On the business side, I take care of all the paperwork, research, networking, social media and finances. My background (scientific/research and some Medicine (Vet school)) has prepared me for this role, so I don't mind at all. My mom is teaching me the needlepoint work during this time :-)
Thanks Claudia! It sounds like you have a great relationship and I'm sure your Mom enjoys sharing her needlepoint skills with you. Wishing you lots of sales.
Thanks Pat :-)
