I'm Melanie O'Keefe and very glad to join the group. I've done plenty of shows but finding the good shows amongst so many out there is not easy. Ive been painting full time for two years. Ive gone to plenty of bad shows and some good ones. I'm excited to be part of a community of artists who have the experience of where the good shows are plus understanding the ins and outs of this chosen field.

I don't know if you know about this site, but it is also one of ours to help artists with info to help you decide if you should do a certain show or not. It is www.ArtShowReviews.com. Check it out. Feel free to review a show or two. The reviews are very helpful to artists and that is why we are always asking for artists to submit a few reviews.
Hi Melanie...welcome! Most of the shows have reviews on this site, so just look for the one in question and read what you can about it from the perspective of other artists who've done it. If you can't find a particular review, then just pose the question and someone's bound to respond. In any event, we're happy to have you joining us and wish you the best of luck!
You're probably right and that's something I'll learn over time but where I live art is not a big seller. It's more like an afterthought and they mainly buy small. I live in Alabama and people just aren't willing to pay for art unless you're very well-known. I've had some great commissions but I've had shows where I didn't sell a thing. Then one show I practically sell it out.
As someone who has done over 1,200 shows let me give you the first bit of advice. Sometimes the "better shows" aren't necessarily the better shows for you. This is something we all learn eventually.
Read a lot of posts, and get to know who we are as individuals.
