Hi--I've been a member here for a couple of weeks, but haven't posted anything, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I work in 2 media. I've been a rugweaver for a long time, and have been doing art festivals for 12 years or so showing the rugs. In the past few years it's gotten more complicated, as I've added beadwork, mostly jewelry, but vessels too, to the mix. So at some shows I show rugs, and at others I show beadwork. It's been an eye opener, as jewelry is, of course, a much more competitive category for jurying than fiber, so I've had less success than I'd like at getting into shows with the beadwork. I've been working on getting a better booth shot, and Larry's offered some helpful suggestions. Right now I'm making some changes to the booth, so the picture will have to wait a few weeks till I get that done. Meanwhile, I'm making more rugs and jewelry, as I don't have any shows this summer.

Hello Emilie,
Welcome to AFI!! Restocking for the fall season- good way to utilize your summer off!! I took two months off last summer- the weather was miserable here- rain, storms- hail, thunder, lightening every outdoor show, so I felt okay with that! This year I am hoping the weather gods/gurus will send some great sunny weather this way....I love outdoor shows, and missed doing them in the summer!
Hi Emilie and welcome aboard :)
Hello Emilie and welcome to our group. We have a very helpful and friendly group of people here. You sound like you have many interests and I think that makes a person more interesting.
Why aren't you doing any shows this summer? Is your stock down. Rug making sounds like a lot of fun to me. Do you use a loom to make them?
Check out our blogs. That is a good place to really get to know everyone. Post your booth shot when you have it finished if you would like some constructive criticism or ideas.
No shows this summer because I'm in north Florida and we don't have summer shows because of the heat. For me the least attractive part of doing shows is the highway driving. To go to northern summer shows means driving 1000 miles each way, and I'll only do that for a pretty good show. I applied to Old Town in Chicago, which I've done before, as well as Long's Park and American Craft Expo, which I haven't, but I didn't get into any of them. So I'll just wait till fall.
One thing I meant to mention in my initial post--I don't do facebook or anything, so I'm not used to the "friending" thing. So for now I'm avoiding that, except maybe for people that I actually know in the flesh. I'm just not familiar enough with it.
