Introducing. . . .

Hi all!

I am a new member here and would like to introduce myself. My name is Linda, my media is painting, mostly oils. I am beginning my 2nd year on  the Art Show circuit, and enjoying it very much -- hard work but rewarding in so many ways. I've been reading the posts here for a while, which are very helpful. See you down the road. Good luck to all!

  • Hi Linda, Yes Alachua near Gainsville! I must have passed you on our way From Minnesota to SW Florida on I75.  What shows are you planning to do this winter?  Any on the west coast of Florida?  From my 15 years doing shows, I can tell you the best part is the friendships you will make.

    • Hi Pat,

Thanks for your reply. I'm sure you did pass right through Alachua on your way south. My schedule is kind of light this winter. I took January off. I have one show here in Gainesville in February, a small one, but it was good for me last year: Winter Fine Art Fair at Tioga. In March I'll be going to Fort Myers for the Gulf Coast Fine Art Festival. I think this is a new show by Blu Art Festivals. We'll see how it goes. It is also the first time I will be exhibiting in Fort Myers. In April I may be in another show here in Gainesville, the Santa Fe College Spring Arts Festival. I am wait-listed, so we'll see. In May I hope to go to Midflorida Mayfaire by the Lake, another small show that was good for me last year. I hope to add in one other show, which I have not applied to yet. I just bought a new tent and will be working on new booth shots with the new setup. Any suggestions would be warmly appreciated.

      Thanks

  • Hello Linda, glad to see you here.  How many shows do you try to do a year?

We hope you will be a participant here in our forums.  That is how we help each other.  See you around.

    • Hi Jacki,

Last  year we did 10. This year, maybe 10 if my husband and roadie has enough time off to accompany me. Can't do without my roadie!

  • Hello Linda,

My wife Sherry and I have only been on the site a few weeks. Sherry is the artist and I am the computer geek and beast of burden. We have not done our first show yet, so you are already ahead of us in on-the-road experience. We may be of some use in helping you know what not to do as we muddle through this.

We intend on doing at least one, maybe two Florida shows every year. Hopefully one day we will be at the same show.

    Good Luck!

  • Hi Linda and welcome to AFI :)  This is the best resource on the web if you do shows I think!   Don't be shy if you've got questions!

  • So pleased to meet you here, Linda, and thanks for posting. Sounds like you have big adventures ahead of you and the members here are ready to support you. Where do you live? We can probably put you in touch with members here that you'll meet at a show.

Join us in the discussions. We are always looking for friendly people to chat with. Even if you don't have an answer to someone's questions, coming in with a friendly word or two works wonders and keeps this community humming. Please go answer someone's discussion as soon as you get a chance.

    • Thanks Connie. I live in Alachua, near Gainesville, FL.
