I am in need of a software program that is inexpensive and will easily change the format of my photos to fit Zapp's format. I use to have Photoshop 6 on my computer and it worked very well for my needs and was easy for me to use. However it had a virus and had to be deleted.Any suggestions???

Larry, thanks for the info. This is best thing about this site. I just learned something that is extremely vital. I've always done separate images for Zapp and JAS. However, I must now go back and examine my Zapp images and redo the ones that are not 1920 square.
JAS reduces the size of anything you upload (1400-2000) to 700 pixels long dimension. That's what the jurors see and they only do monitor jurying. The biggest difference is that JAS uses a neutral gray background so the black borders can be a distraction. That's why there should be two sets of images prepared. One 1920 square with black borders for ZAPP and one between 1400 and 2000 pixels long dimension without borders for JAS. The reason for the asked for size in JAS is for the shows to use the full size images for advertising.
You absolutely need to make your images 1920 pixels square with black borders masking rectangular images. If you don't ZAPP will square them adding black borders and resave your JPEGs at a lower quality level.
Does that apply to JAS, too? I mean the part about lowering the image quality. In there instructions, they talk about just having the largest size being 2000 pixels.
I guarantee that you did not get a virus from Photoshop 6. The only way you that scenario you describe is possible, you would have had to have gone without any Anti Virus protection for years and then installed an AV program that found the virus. In that situation, you would have had the virus for years and not known it.
Or, you bought a new computer and went to install Photoshop 6 on the new computer and your AV program found the virus. In that scenario, if your copy of Photoshop is a homemade copy given to you by a friend, it may have had a virus on it. It is also possible that your AV software is giving you a false positive. You are being kind of vague on the circumstances involved in finding the virus. It's possible, no probable, that you do have a legitimate, clean copy of Photoshop 6. I consider my expertise in computer security to be somewhere between advanced and expert. If you want to send me a message detailing the circumstances under which you discovered you had a virus, and the subsequent clean up, I may be able to determine whether you indeed did have a virus and where it came from. I doubt you got that virus from a roque copy of Photoshop.
GIMP is an open source free software that I am told is quite good. The interface is quite a bit different than Photoshop but the price is right. Photoshop Elements might also have most of the tools you need. It is priced at $99. Here is a link for a demo version: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_elem...
If your needs are pretty simple as in cropping and simple adjustments Googles Picassa is free and fairly helpful. Here is a link for that: http://picasa.google.com
Having said all that why don't you just reinstall Photoshop?

Thanks for your help Kevin. I am not really sure how I got Photoshop 6 on my computer. Evidently it must have been pirated and that is where the virus came from??? I have been using it for years. In any event, I will try GIMP. I just went to Zapp and read the "help" section and realized that I do not have to have all of my images 1920 x1920 anymore. So I should be able to use GIMP to change the image size on the long side to 1920 and I should be ok. It gives me all of the photo editing I need so I think I am all set.
Larry, I stand corrected. I meant the 2000 pixel size that JAS requires.
Funny, and I know it just what I would prefer and not what a jury prefers, but, I would like to see something in between your 2 images. In the original there is too much space to the left and right. In your image, it bothers me that you cut off the head. lol. My image would show how nicely the garment fits on the model. In your image, the detail of the garment is easier to see.

But that's what the jury piece is. Artists that make clothing should never include the models face unless they make hats. And even then the model should be facing away. That's because your eyes are initially drawn to the models eyes and face before looking at what they're supposed to look at - and then the time is gone.

Thanks again for everyone's input!!
Good deal. Glad Gimp will do the job for you.
