I make quilted wall hangings! I've been making them to sell for about 3 years now. This year Uncle Sam insists that I make a profit. So far, the only show that I've attended so far went very well. I did the Edina Art Fair in Minneapolis (Edina) Minnesota. The expected crowd is 100,000 and based upon my observations it was surpassed this year. The weather was WONDERFUL!!!!
I doubled my previous high earnings for a show. I got two commissions and met some wonderful people. I've already spent a few hours on the topic of worst comments from shoppers. Love the comments. It's interesting how the general public has no idea of what to say to artists.

Thanks for the report Leslie. I have never done this art fair and am considering applying for 2013. Would you say from your observations that most painters were doing well too? (I do painting myself.) Was the traffic high all 3 days?

I like your outlook and attitude!! trolling the forums is my fave past time- I usually reward myself with it after accomplishing my daily goals/objectives- that way it won't eat into my studio/creative time!! I look forward to your contributions!

It is a complicated coming together, artists and the public, sometimes, especially from people who are insecure about their taste, don't want to seem ignorant, nor really understand where our pricing comes from. I mean, on a certain level, I can go to TJ Maxx and find wonderful decorative objects as great prices -- and clothing! well, the wearables at art fairs can seem outrageous, etc., for just about every media. For the artist it is all about making them comfortable and being genuinely interested in them -- and congratulations on your success at Edina. I'll bet you're feeling great.
