Hughes easels are known for their good quality and engineering. I bought this massive easel to work on very large commisssions for a hospital. It can be vertical like a traditional easel, or go flat for watermedia. I used it for about a year, and since then its been sitting in corner of the stduio collecting dust. I dont work that large anymore, and would like the space in the studio instead! It is used and has some paint on it, but but other than that has done nothing but hold up a painting for display.
