Has anyone done this show?  I searched the internet and this site and can't find any artist reviews.  It says that it has been around 30 plus years but also says that it is an Arts and Crafts show which worries me.  (I am photographer).

Any insight is appreciated.

  • I did this show last year. Won't do it again. I was a very nice park and easy set up, but poor sales.I am also a photographer.. Lots of looks, but not much in sales. Lots of people just strolling through.....no admission fee. On Sunday, thought I was at a dog show. Everyone was walking through with a dog.

Maybe it would depend on what you had to sale. I had mostly coastal scenes. Perhaps if you had more central Texas theme photos it would work. but generally I would say, it is more a craft fair.

  • John - I did this show for several years when we lived in the DFW area (now in Broken Arrow, OK).  It's a nice show, run by a fairly competent group of volunteers and gets a pretty good crowd.  The last show I did - 2009 - there were a lot of photographers.  The artwork in general seems pretty upscale and I don't remember seeing much buy/sell, if any.

  • I went to their website and it clearly states it's an art and craft show. It appears to be a mid level general show with artists, crafters, food and entertainment.

So if you don't want to be seen with those icky crafters, I suggest you pass on it.

    • Thanks.  I checked out their website also and looks like it may be a well ran show. What threw me off is that they talk of having all mediums of art from paintings to jewelry.   No problem with crafters but most people shopping for crafts are not buying photography and vice versa.  Different crowds with different interests.  That's why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors but they are all good.

I noticed your picture on profile and had to go look at my stock.  I was in Vermont last year and did several covered bridges and they all seem to look a lot alike as I have two separate pictures that are close to the one you have but are not the same.

      • I took that photo. It's the Chiselville Covered Bridge and I go through it every day.

I'm leaving in about an hour to set up at a show in Rutland, VT. It's called Art in the Park. But it's an art and craft show. There will be fine art right next to dried flowers. Photography next to primitive wood. I know some of the photographers and they will be bringing some of their more inexpensive work. They will gear their work to the market they're in. And they'll make money, I guarantee it.

That's what successful exhibitors will do. You could possibly do very well at the show you spoke of. Just gear your product to the customers, and you'll go home with money.
