I am sure many of you were aware of the big news story from last week when it was reported that the Susan G. Komen Foundation had stopped grants to Planned Parenthood. Social media went crazy as well as the rest of the media covering this story.
This weekend Howard Alan is partnering with the organization for his highly regarded festival in Coconut Point. I'm sure this partnership was inked way before all the hoopla started. Anyone doing the show this weekend? Inquiring minds are very curious about what this will mean, or even if it will disrupt anything at all. It is a cool promotion, artists donated gift certificates to Susan G. Komen and SGK is selling tickets to win the prizes.
The HAE partnering with local organizations has gotten them some good publicity for their shows and publicity never hurt an art festival!
Your thoughts?

The February Bonita show is this weekend, also. The two shows can't be more than 5 miles apart on the Tamiami trail(US 41).
Where will you be, Barry?
I have nothing planned. I'm planning on being a tourist and visiting both shows. I chose to do the March Bonita show instead. I'm gearing up for the Grove extravaganza next weekend and staying with Geri and her husband. Come on down if you are not doing anything. Geri had a cancellation so you could stick around and have a place to stay.
I'm not participating in this particular promotion, but not because of the flap surrounding SGK and Planned Parenthood. (SGK reversed its decision to withdraw funding, by the way).
There was an article in the Ft. Myers News-Press this morning stating that SGK donations for the "Race for the Cure" in March are down. Ironically, this event will be held at Coconut Point Mall, which is also hosting the festival this weekend. The last paragraph mentions the festival:
"This wekend, Komen is partnering with the Coconut Art Festival [sic] to raise money for the race. For every $15, donors will have the chance to win a $2500 shopping spree,...:
Where's the link for that, Geoff? Oh my, maybe you were reading a "print" publication... wonders never cease.
