I just did my figures and my June sales were my lowest in 10 years.

I was only down a bit from last June (but last year was also my worst June).

My March was UP from previous years but my May and June, down.

Just curious as to how you all are doing?

My work has become better and better and my sales are lower than ever. 'Isnt it ironic dont you think?' as Alannys Morissette sang.:)

  • I chose better shows, improved my work and raised my prices - so, although this was just my 3rd June, it was my best ever.
  • We only did 2 shows in June, both were surprises, a new show with way lower sales than we expected, another show we've done many times where we had the best show there we've ever had for that event, of course $700 of our sales at that event came in the last hour on Sunday which is never a predictable sales pattern.  Overall it averaged out to our best June in 5 years of doing shows.  That being said, shows in this part of the country that are good in June are few and we're still considering road trips for 2012 to areas where summer actually starts before July!!
  • Best June since 2008. Half through the year and we're already ahead of all 2010. I feel like the tide has turned since the 1st of the year. I hope it's contagious. I gotta agree that my work and others is the best I've seen. I guess hard times make for raising the bar a little higher. I'm praying my run continues but am fully aware that fate is a fickle thing. Hang in there y'all.
    • The two shows I did in June, Rittenhouse in Philly and Lakefront in Milwaukee, were up this year from last. Lakefront was way up, which totally caught me off guard. I wrote a blog last June complaining that 2010 sales were down, and I thought the spewing oil well was affecting sensitive art buying types. My friends tell me I am over-thinking this.
  • My sales also the worst in many years. And I thought last June was bad!

Jim, I normally do Crosby. But sales have been dropping there for me for several years, so I passed it up this year to do a closer show (Covington Fort Wayne) , which I have done before with decent sales. But my sales there were even lower than I could imagine Crosby ever being. I have a minimum per day below which is makes no sense to do a show, with expenses, etc. I made HALF my minimum there! So I’ve been wondering how Crosby was.

    • Crosby was about the same as last year -- see my review in the blog section. But the high end buyers were fewer this year, for whatever reason. Others did well here, as usual, but my sales have dipped and risen. 2009 was miserable for me, 2008 was the best year I've had there. In 2009, I won an award and was invited back, otherwise I would not have gone back. I think it was the weather that year. Rainy/icky.
  • Down by about half of last year's June. We had a great show at Wells Street last year, this year not so much. Crosby Festival was about the same as last year. Didn't do Columbus last year, so don't have a comparison for that. Gallery sales in May were very flat.
  • My sales were $0 and $50 for the month of June and I cancelled 3 of my five scheduled shows.  May was way off as well.

    -me too!
