Last year, I created virtual 3d products and added my images into the "finished products". I think that might not have been what the jurors were looking for (never got any feedback, but got into shows). I am submitting for a couple of deadlines tonight and wanted to know if I can just take the image and add the black bars and call it done.

Yes. Just the image with black borders masking rectangular images at 1920x1920 pixels. Anything more than the image, as in mat or frame, makes the image appear smaller to the jurors. It's the booth that allows them to see your presentation, not the individual art images.
