Hello fellow insiders,

I'm Karen and I'm new to the art fair scene. Well, not completely new, I've been attending them for years thinking someday I'd have a booth myself...

I'm a photographer near Orlando, Florida and I'm looking to book my first show in the very near future. For now, it's a part-time thing, in addition to my full-time marketing job, but I'm hoping to take my photography full time in the next few years. I'm working on getting my booth set up.

I'm really excited to be in this community, and hope to learn a lot from all of the experts out there!

    Hi Karen,

    We're excited to have you as part of this community too!  What kind of photography are you attracted to and how would you describe your style?  I'm a newbie myself and have only sold in galleries and gift shops so far but have recently applied to a big craft show here in Detroit, so we'll see how it goes...in any event, good luck to you and thanks for joining AFI.

      For art fairs, I focus on travel/landscape/nature. I love everything from the epic vistas to the little details. I'm in the process of narrowing things down for selling. I also do real estate photography and portraits. You can check out my work at www.karenkphoto.com.

        Thanks, Karen...I've already looked at your work and it's wonderful!  When you say real estate photography, do you mean for the real estate co. or for the homeowner?  I'm not familiar with that term...

          For the real estate agents. They use the photos in their listings and promotional materials.

    Welcome to AFI, Karen. My wife and I are enroute to Orlando area for two shows. We'll be in Maitland Rotary Show this weekend and then Winter Springs two weeks after that. Come out and see us if you can. My wife is AB Word. WOOHOO!

      Cool! I'll be out of town this weekend (the Maitland one always seems to fall that way!), but I'll definitely try to make the Winter Springs one!

    Pleased to have you join us, Karen. I'm sure this site will be helpful to you and in turn that your marketing background will be helpful to the rest of us. Keeping that balance between creating and promoting the work is a tricky one, and it is usually the latter that gets neglected. 

    What are you thinking of for a starter show?

      I'm looking at local ones. Maitland, Altamonte Springs, a few others. Any suggestions?
