I stumbled upon this website the other night and I'm glad I did. I've already fast-tracked some knowledge you all shared with each other and I found it very helpful.
I spent 33 years doing trade shows in the gift and home decor industry as a manufacturer's representative. I sold my agency in 2004 and in 2005 starting working as a metalsmith. I recently applied to two juried shows and was accepted. I'm doing the Artfair 2011 in Deerfield, IL on April 30/May 1 and then will be showing in the Art in the Park show in Northbrook, IL in July.
I'm now in the process of exploring options regarding booth tents, fixtures, credit card processing, etc. Trying to make the best decisions so I don't waste money.
I'm looking forward to working with all of you..........

Welcome to the art fairs, Bill! If you look at the photos at this blog posting you will see that this is not a business only for young people ;) Many of them are people like yourself who have always been interested in creating and have done if for an avocation for a long time and now are free to explore a new life. They bring many skills to the business.
You'll find lots of into on this site to help you get started. Also, if there are any events going on in your region before your Deerfield show do attend and take lots of notes on setup, tents, merchandising, where the crowds are, etc.
Welcome Bill!
I also fast tracked and researched when I first joined! This site and it's members are a great resource! Check out the discussion boards, as we talk about everything Art/fair related here. Ask questions, join in and enjoy! My first show of the season is tomorrow- only a small, local show, close to home. Still indoors as we still have two feet of snow up here Maine! Again, Welcome, and enjoy!
Hello Bill and welcome. We are glad you have joined us here. It won't be long and you will have your first show under your belt. Be sure to stop by and let us know how it goes for you. Good luck.
