Hi there!
My name is Kelly Brown and I am a mixed media artist living in Sylvania, Ohio. I'm excited to be getting back into the world of art shows. I've only done one art show (in 2003), which was at The University of Toledo for Art on the Mall. I had a very positive experience for that one day show and I am hoping that will ring true again for the new shows I will be a part of this year. I am confirmed for 2 shows this summer, and am waiting for the results of my 3rd entry.
I have spent the last 13 years running my own business, Art by Kelly, which is a faux finish and mural company. I graduated from The Columbus College of Art & Design with a BFA majoring in illustration in 1996. I have been so very happy to be able to make a living from my art. I do faux finishes and murals for residential and commercial spaces, and I enjoy that work very much, but recent back problems have forced me into taking fewer large scale jobs. As a result of that, I have been working in the studio more on smaller mixed media collages. I have some typical newbie questions, and look forward to chatting about all things 'art fair related' with you soon! I like that main painting featured on each page of your website. Plus that urban sketching stuff would be a cool addition to shows out here. Nice. I'm not as excited about the other decorative work found in the NEW WORK portfolio, but plenty others probably will like it just fine and carry it home for the hangin'.
Faux finishing stuff can be really nice work. Ever do any gilding? I'm a member of Society of Gilders and there are quite a number of faux folks involved with that bunch. Big projects involving marbelizing and stuff like that and 23kt gold leaf. I'm a picture frame designer/maker, carver, and gilder.
Keep on plugging away at what you love doing, and once again, welcome aboard. WOOHOO!
Thanks for the welcome Barrie! I have done some gold leafing and foil work. I am quoting a project now using the V-Mask foil line. I also will be painting a frame a custom color and was thinking about adding some metallic foil or paint to make it extra special. I will be attending an Urban Sketching seminar this June in Chicago, I really enjoy that style of drawing too. I admit the 'new work' section of my webpage needs some updating, I try to put watermarks on my images before adding them to the website. Thanks again for the welcome. ;)
