Hello All,

I should have posted this first, but was under a bit of a time crunch. You may have heard the old saying that if a man tells you he is going to do something then it is not necessary to remind him of that promise every six months. Well, I promised Sherry I would take care of my side of this venture well over six months ago.

Sherry has retired after 27 years as a kindergarten teacher. I am an assistant professor of mathematics at a two year college in Knoxville, Tennessee. If I tried to retire Sherry might be questioned in my disappearance. I am also only a dissertation away from a PhD in mathematics education at the University of Tennessee. We have four adult children spread across the south from Georgia to Texas and 4 grandchildren. We are owned by our cat Radar, who will be traveling with us occasionally. We are active in our church, where Sherry plays the piano and organ and I handle the tech duties including the big screen displays for the Sunday morning service.

Sherry began painting in 2002. She has attended many workshops and classes during that time and has frequently been encouraged by her teachers to "go pro"; so here we are. She works with acrylics on canvas. As she has explained to her non-artist husband she likes the vivid colors and acrylics do not aggravate her allergies. She also is drawn to Plein Air painting. She has attended several workshops and she hopes to attend a Plein Air festival and series of classes and workshops in Ireland this summer. Of course I get to go to carry her luggage.

We live between the Smokies and the Cumberland Plateau in the shadow of Walden's Ridge, hence the name we picked for the art business. We had to leave the apostrophe out because of the havoc that creates for websites. East Tennessee provides most of the inspiration for her work combined our interesting travel destinations   Sherry signs her work ssjones, which was her maiden name, before she had the misfortune of marrying someone named John Smith. Hopefully our website will be online tonight, once the name server change is processed.

We have found this site very useful as we try to finally get up and running. Thanks for the valuable information provided by so many of you. We look forward to meeting some of you in the future. Now hopefully, I will type http://waldensridgegallery.com into the browser bar and our website will pop up so I can get some some sleep.

Thanks again,

John & Sherry Smith

  • I have to tell you John Smith that we vet all members who try to join and I was very reluctant to let John Smith join. Larry Berman does most of the checking on people who want to join and is pretty careful that we aren't getting spammers. But it seems you really are John Smith. I'd guess you are the only one here so you will not be anonymous on the site.

Sounds like the two of you are up for a great adventure. The art fair life is a great lifestyle, full of fun and sometimes not-so-great adventures. Welcome to our world. It will enable a lot of visits to children and grandchildren along the way. Let us hear how things go for you.

  • Hi John and Sherry and welcome to AFI!   I love the way you're tackling this new adventure - keep us updated :)
