For someone who hasn't done a show yet I can get overwhelmed and don't know where to start.  I live in Fort Lauderdale so I plan on applying for the Las Olas show.  Does not being in a show before  affect your chances to be accepted in a show or are you judged on your artwork?

  • I did encounter a question on one of my aps this year:  "What other shows have you done?"  Not sure what the point of this question was--maybe to find out if I'd already saturated the market in that area, or it could have been another sort of jurying process to see if I'd been accepted to any other shows as fine as theirs.    (I'm guessing the latter is true--this show has a reputation for being snooty.)
  • Nobody's in a show they are applying to, unless they won an award the previous year.

You are only judged by images of your work and of your display. The only handicap you have is not having experience in putting a great set of jury images together, or a good booth shot.

  • I doubt it,  I think of applying for shows like going to vegas and gambling, cause that is what you are doing.   I think it depends on you photographs.   All you can do is try,  apply to quite a few shows if you are going to do this full time.   my first  year in  this business i did 40 shows in one year, most of them in Calif.  Now i am down to around 12 shows.   So i would just say go for it.
