I would like to make my own table coverings for my art fair booth. i use the folding rectangle tables that extend to a height of 29" and are easy to carry. i currently use a big piece of fabric on them and the horrible pleated table skirts you clip on. i'd love to make my own that slip on over the entire table as one piece. i've seen other people with them, but no one has been willing or able to share how they were made or share any plans or patterns.
does anyone here know what i am talking about or would be able to share how they're made? thanks!

The point Diane was trying to make is that using tables with table cloths limits the shows you can apply to. For example, Howard Alan has about 50 craft shows and 50 fine art shows and doesn't want booths with table cloths in all his shows.
I realize it's a simple inexpensive solution but you should consider other options also. Some higher end jewelers have custom displays made by a local cabinet maker. They spec it out and design it so each piece folds flat for traveling. In between you can use desks or pedestals from Pro Panels or Armstrong Display. They are carpeted and also fold flat. If the focus is on the work and keeping the display simple, look at Abstracta, Crown Displays, and Dynamic Displays. I have links on my web site:

We have two folding tables that are 24x48 and we went to a local lady who does alterations and she made very nice custom fit table coverings for them with zippers on the backside. They slip on the tables very easily and are great...! We can easily store empty rubbermade containers and other supplies under them. My wife picked out the cloth and it only cost us $50 to have them made.
Good price for two that large. Material alone is expensive these days.
I used the pleated skirts, but mine had Velcro at the top. I picked up the long Velcro strips from the hardware store and ran that around the edge of my plastic folding table.
when I used tablecloths, I purchased them already made. Some promoters don't like tables with tablecloths so I went a different route.
Is that why so many people use pedestals, crates or wooden furniture?
Many people purchase these because if you are showing indoors, they must be fire retardant. If you are showing out of doors, that may not be a requirement.
To make a table cover, lay your yard goods over the top of the table and cut the shape of the table making certain to allow at least 5/8" seam allowance.
Measure from the center back of the table all the way around and meet on the other side so that you have the length of the distance. You will need approximately that plus 1/2 the distance to allow for gathering.
Pin the sides to the top and stitch.
I don't know if any of the sewing pattern companies have patterns for these, but they are really very simple to make. I buy mine and the 6' one was $70.00. You can probably cut that cost by about half if you make one yourself. The material is one that does not wrinkle.
Hope this helps.
