Hi Everyone,
I recently ordered a supply through etsy and am beginning to wonder about it. It shipped from Spain on Nov. 5. I was told it would take 5-7 business days to arrive by the USPS. I have kept in contact with the seller. It has not arrived as of the mail posting today but she says it will arrive any day. I have never ordered via etsy before. I paid via a debit card at a local bank & the payment cleared on Nov. 5. What recourse do I have for this if it never arrives?

Any time I have ordered something from out of the country from Etsy or Ebay it always took about a month to receive it. This seller does know this, just wanted to make the sale to you and then act dumb about why it hasn't arrived yet.
I use to ship things internationally for a company I worked for. The amount of paperwork required by some countries is crazy and yes.. customs either way can just decide they are holding a package and you have no control over it. One country I shipped to I would call the office I was sending it to so they could alert the officials at the airport that they knew it was coming and had an invoice list of what was in the package. This insured things would get to them and not "come up missing". Shoot I've mailed stuff from my house to Tennessee and it has taken more than 7 days. The mystery of shipping...
We have mailed something first class to a town 45 minutes away in the same state and it took over 7 days to get there. Ridiculous! Now we take that regular monthly mail, it's only one item, and I hand deliver it when I go there. I am there weekly so it is no extra work/gas/time. At least that way we can ensure it arrives in a timely manner.
I wanted to report that my etsy order finally came on Friday. It was in good order with no damage at all. Not sure why it took up to a week longer than other USA bound packages the seller shipped the same day. I let the seller know it arrived and that I'd send a photo of a project I do with it. I have decided I will order from her again but will expect it to take 2 weeks or longer to arrive.
We've had a few int'l packages delayed, both coming and going, by customs inspections. Seems to be random.
Hope you like the item and SO GLAD it arrived, one way or the other.
This is none of my business (but hasn't stopped me yet ;-) )
But before you write a review, if you receive the item and are still out of sorts that it took so long, send the seller a note that states when you received and how long it took.
By the seller's response, and if she changes her shipping time per your suggestion, it would be kinder not to smash her store profile over this. If she honestly did NOT know it could take this long, then educate her, and ask her to change the time line on her items.
good luck, and do let us know when it arrives!
Camryn,
Since I last posted she told me someone in California had their package mailed the same day and it has arrived, in addition to the one in Canada. As of today's mail mine is still not here.
About notifying the seller, I already told her I would let her know when it arrives. I also told her that if it has not arrived by Saturday I would notify her of that. I don't think I'll be smashing her site. She has already said she is going to go with the tracking for the USPS, costs more and does not speed up or slow down delivery but helps in situations like this.
I am thinking she did not know it could take this long. Perhaps she has been fortunate up to now that it did arrive quickly.
Oh, good! If it wasn't intentional, I figure being understanding will be a nice bit of karma down the road.
The delivery time depends on how it clears customs. If it happens to get selected for inspection then it can take a few weeks as it sits in the que, if it does not then it could get to you in 7 days. The sender had no control over this.
I had not yet thought of customs. This is one reason our retail store does not ship overseas .... too much to go wrong at customs.
