EntryThingy and ZAPP Images

Most shows using EntryThingy are asking for the ZAPP 1920 pixel square format.

You can't take your images from ZAPP for EntryThingy. Once your images have been uploaded to ZAPP, you only have access to 700 pixel square enlarged images, too small for EntryThingy and also too small to be edited and then uploaded again to ZAPP.

You must go back to the ZAPP images before they were uploaded. For years I've been warning artists that they needed their ZAPP images on CD from their photographer and hopefully they have them now that they are needed for non ZAPP use.

The reason for this post is because every day I'm getting calls or emails from artists who are trying to upload images that are too small for EntryThingy and don't know why because they took them from their ZAPP profile.

  • I've seen this used for a few West Coast shows, and while I like it, one pet peeve was the fact that I had to upload my images with different naming conventions. For example one show wanted all images renamed to artist first name, last name and then numbered.  So, we couldn't just re-use the images from other submissions, we had to rename, upload and then add descriptions, prices, etc.   Not quite as easy as ZAPP.

    • Ruth - EntryThingy does not have any requirements for the image file names - that's for the show to say if they want it that way.

      • Chris, do you have a "best policies" FAQ for the shows to guide them in what they choose?

        • Not really, Connie - there's a FAQ at http://www.entrythingy.com/faq.html that answers most questions... I think it's that there are shows that switch to digital but still need to keep parts of the old process in place...

          • Or I've thought that maybe they just copy old verbage from their previous years' applications.

    • And there is no image bank. You can only add images if you start an application, or log into an existing application.

Maybe Chris should think about letting artists create an image bank they can draw from.

      • Larry - Yes, that's something to think about - although artists can reuse images they've uploaded to other calls - so there's no need to upload the same images over and over.

    • But once you have done that one time, Ruth, will you not have that information for the next time, all uniform like your ZAPP account?

      • Connie - It's not a huge deal, but I did 2-3 EntryThingy apps in one week, had 7 images and had to re-upload 5 of them due to a specific shows naming convention.  There's no way to rename the file once you've uploaded it or at least no way that I found.  Still, I would rather use that tool than have to put images on a CD or mail photos and a paper application to a show.
