East Lansing Info

Hello All! Totally new here.

First, I am so grateful for all the information being provided, what a great resource.  Thank you!

Question, I was accepted to East Lansing this year and am looking for any recommendations regarding the show and where to stay.  I am travelling from outside of Columbus, Ohio.

Jen

  • I'll be there this year also. It's my first year. See you there!  Kristin
    • Great!  Hope to see you!
  • Thanks Janet and Connie!  Looking forward to the show and to possibly getting away to meet a few of you!

:)  Hopefully I will be too busy for that to happen!

  • Jennifer, there are lots of hotel rooms in Lansing/E. Lansing since this is a state capitol/university town. There is a Marriott right on the show property, if you want to pay the price...but pretty handy. Other than that you have to go to the nearby freeways for rooms...there is a Red Roof pretty close.

Harrison, I'm not sure what to say. I'd call this a pretty conservative city, lots of well-educated people with decent pay checks from the State government and university jobs. If you have outrageous work, I'd say no, but if you can hit "middle America" they really turn out a nice crowd of very nice folks who do love the show. Staff is great and they do a good job of making it easy on you.

Nels Johnson was there last year - reach out to him and see if you can get him to comment on this thread.

    • Thanks Connie, I do believe I have stuff for "middle America" will give it a try and call it experience. Thanks for the feedback.

      • Hope to see you there Harrison.

  • Was just called up as well from the waitlist so will also be interested in information about this show. Its quite a distance for me coming from Delaware just want to know if its worth the trip.

    Harrison.

    • Harrison,

I've done the show on the crafter side for a few years now.  I can't comment on the art fair as far as sales go, but I can tell you that people do come out in droves for the show - and walk both the fine art and fine craft shows.  (Fine art is on the street; craft is on the MSU campus across the street, FYI)  I'm a fine crafter and I've had very strong sales each year, as do many of the crafters - we all keep coming back, which is a good sign.  Like I said, I can't give sales info for the fine art show as it might be completely different over there, but I have never had time to look - I've been too busy in my booth to get away and take a look.  I DO know you'll get a lot of traffic, though.

      • Thank you Janet for the feedback. This was the only show I applied for that weekend so will be doing it, maybe my feedback on the art section will help others.
  • Hi Jen- this will be our first year at the show as well. We got a room 15 minutes away at a Ramada Inn for $65 a night....it was cheaper than through priceline with our AAA membership.
