Can anyone tell me about this show?  Since Ill be staying in Tampa for the winter it will be close and the booth fee isnt all that high.  Not looking to make a killing but would like to sell a few things.

This would be my first show with Howard Allan.  I cant believe how fast they juried and accepted me.  It only took 2 days.  I hope that doesnt mean they are really needing people to fill this show. Any thoughts on this?

  • Well I know I was taking a chance on Dunedin but I went ahead and did it.  I only sold 2 pieces on Saturday and none on Sunday and didnt make my booth fee.  Still had a great time talking to people about my art.  Many many great compliments but they just werent buying. At least not from me.  Talked to another photographer and she wasnt selling either, about the same results that I had.  Pretty good turn out I guess.  The people selling jewelery seemed to be doing ok.  Didnt see a lot of 2D art being carried around.  Used my new Square for both of my sales and had no problems.  Works like a charm.

BUT!! Best news for me was a gallery owner who wants buy my art in quantity to sell in his gallery. Not on consignment but outright.  Had a great compliment when he told me I was the only one at the show he wanted to make this offer to.  He wants several of my 16x20 matted prints in quantities of 12.  I only have to matte them and he will frame them.  Had a couple of ladies come by later in the day that asked how I was doing and I told them but also mentioned the gallery owner.  They proceeded to tell me about an artist they bought from at this show a few years ago and saw his work at gallery in the same town where the guy I talked to was from. Turns out its the same gallery owner so I know its legit.  Will be calling him soon to work out a price. So the show seems like it will be a success for me in the long run.

I dont have any complaints about the show.  No free food or drinks, no artist lounge, no extras period but no problems either so I cant complain. Very easy in and out and plenty of extra space. Seemed like a decent turn out but I dont have a lot to compare it to.  Im too new at this and this is my first winter show.

  • Howard Allen is a promoter and he is in it for the money. He does a show every 3 months in Dunedin under his name or American Craft Endeavors. He charges too much and good luck. He does advertise. He does not do anything extra for the artists, not that some care. I just will not do his shows on principal, he caused all show prices to go up in this area. I do not like promoter shows.
    • I agree. I do not do Howard Allen shows on principle either. I did one about 6 yrs ago. That's all it took for me.
      • Thanks Marjorie, I think he over saturates the art shows too. He does about 3 a year in Dunedin. Art Harvest is the one to do. Put on by Dunedin Fine Arts.
  • I'm local to the show, I live about 10 miles from there and do it on occassion. The show takes place in downtown Dunedin. It's a nice downtown with lots of restaurants, some galleries and the Pinellas bike Trail passes through it. If the weather is nice, the show draws a nice crowd. Some years, this show is very cold and most people stay home. Last year was the coldest, with temperture in the 30's all weekend. January has iffy weather in central Florida.

The crowd is not a big buying crowd, however when the weather is beautiful I can usually do ok. Lately my local sales have been slipping so I'm giving the show a rest this year. However, I would certainly give it a try if I were you. Setup and tear down is a little easier than many Howard Alan Shows because the streets are wide. It's a smaller show with only about 100 artists participating. Best of luck!
  • 0 replies has got me worried now. Doesnt anyone do this show? Ive decided to give it a try anyway. Cant afford to loose 350.00 on the booth fee but since Ill already be there there wont be any travel involved.
