I'm looking at purchasing an EZ Up Tent and would love to get a tent that's not white. It would show off my work so much nicer. I am also considering putting a graphic of my name on it. Yet, I realize that's not the norm. Is there some unwritten law that says all art fair tents have to be white? Would I be shooting myself in the foot in terms of being accepted to shows if I don't conform? I appreciate any advice you have.

Thanks, Pete

  • Remember that the sunlight will filter through the colored tent and make everything in your booth that color. We saw this at a large outdoor show that had a huge yellow & white striped tent for the artists to set up in. It colored everything yellow. We lucked out and were in a large tent that was all white. Our silk scarves and clothing would have looked awful under anything else.

    • Also, white will keep you and your work cool.

  • Besides the fact that many shows require a white tent, you will also appreciate the advantage of having a light ceiling on dismal, overcast days.  In dim light conditions the interior of any tent that is not white is downright dark! If you want your walls to be an actual color (i.e. not the white sides of the canopy), then just add curtains.  I have creamy gold curtains and people love the warmth it adds to my booth.

  • Hi Pete, to your last two questions:  Yes and Yes.  :-)  Nearly all shows require white tents.  And the first time you do a shot on a warm day you'll be glad you have a white one!

You could put your name on the tent if you like.  Just keep in mind that when you create a booth shot (that's a shot of your display setup) your name can't appear anywhere in the images. (One consideration about that:  If you decide to brand your business with your business name in the future, you'll be stuck with a tent with outdated branding.)
