I have a big show coming up at the end of May. My work is mixed media. I paint in acrylics and I also do 3D assemblage. I have my tent and pro panels, but my question is how much can I get away with in decor for the inside of the tent where the assemblage will be? My assemblage is very unusual, and made of mostly recycled items. Can I get away with industrial style display pieces or do I have to stay generic?

What do you mean by DECOR?
Decor is something I consider not necessary. I have an Angel theme- to go with the business name, have hung a few pewter angel ornaments, and had decorative business card holders- Artisan painted glass votives, which I retired, because too many people wanted to by them. Got to the point where I wanted to hang a sign-JEWELRY is for sale, the rest is display. If your displays get more attention than your art, then you need to rethink. Now I go with the angel theme, but keep everything else neutral- which really helps sell my work.
I just finished my first show, so I am also a newbie, and I make 3-d also. I made my booth neutral so the folks could imagine it hanging in their house. If you are making art from recycled materials, that might help it stand out rather than blending in to the booth. You want it to stand out. Several people asked me if they could put it outdoors (it won't last) so I had a notebook of pics of the art hanging on walls with other art, so they can better imagine it hanging in their house.
Of course, if they buy it, they can put it where ever they want!
