  • May i ask what other shows you are doing to understand your client base?

    • We are doing Art in the Park in Richmond and a Paragon shoe in Fairfax

  • I did this show last year.  I didn't do well at the show but had one person who bought a print call me after the show and want to exchange it for a framed piece.  She brought a friend when she came to pick it up and the friend bought two framed pieces so I actually made out quite well for having done the show.  I had a pole barn location and I would not do that again.  I was in the front in the middle and people came in one side and out the other and missed me entirely.  There are some good pole barn locations but most of the good ones appear to go to artists who have done the show for years.  Another bad thing about the pole barn is that you have enough room to put up your frame but not the entire tent and most of the pole barn locations are exposed to the elements on either the front or the side.  This year I went for the tent location.   I don't know if I would recommend this show to you since you are out of the area.  I had considered not doing it but it is a local show for me and since I am new to the area I want to give people a chance to get to know me.  I don't expect great things from it this year but last year was such a bad location that I might do much better this year.  Definitely go for the tent rather than a pole barn location if you decide to give it a try.

    • thanks for the info. I do contemporary/modern work. I am afraid given the rural location of the show that there will be more of a country traditional crowd, what do you think?

Do people from Richmond come to this show?

      • the u of va is in charlottesville, about 15 miles away. it is not a country crowd....

some will come from richmond..however, i have found the buyers at crozet to be more upscale than the richmond buyers

        • thanks for the info....it sounds somewhat encouraging...so if you were me,would you spend an extra week on the road to do this show. I am not doing this as a filler show I could either go home or stay the extra week....what do you think? is it worth the gamble? thanks so much.....Merri
