Change of Venue

Being a living human being and owning my own home, I find that from time to time I must take time out to work on other projects. Presently I am working on a roll out unit for a kitchen closet to replace the clutter that had gathered in the closet. I have nearly finished it. As is common, things never come out quite like you planned them. It will do, however. Upon completing the construction and painting the unit, I found that it didn't match the paint in the kitchen so you can guess what happened with the kitchen. When I was deeply involved in my pottery, days and hours were meaningless. Pots had to be finished, glaze batches made up and sometimes even working on new display units. It was a continuous effort. I miss the work, my friendly customers and visitors to the gallery. I had to move on. I am far from young and other activities are now easier. I found that my years bending over a wheel had caused curvature of my spine whch is now creating many problems, including surgery. Instead of always thinking of how many pots to produce, think of the people your skills bring into your life and how they enrich it. You were, are, and will be blessed during this time. I am using some of my time to write my autobiography to hand down to my daughter and grand children, slow though the process is. I like to keep in touch with my email friends as they are bright points in my life. Because life goes on it the writing will never end while I am alive. That means that there is some thing to write about and that I am still cognizant of it. I am still involved in the arts, even to this letter. It is my life and I am part of it. Your art should be "YOU." How ever do I get so philosophical? I keep saying "Enjoy Life."

  • I have edited my discussion of "Change of venue."
  • Larry - don't you find this "off time" very necessary after a season of non stop art fairs? I find from April thru October I work 24/7 on my art, totally neglecting my poor home. Then, the chaotic schedule slows down, I take a hard look and realize, oh my..... I must get this home in shape for the holidays! I have found however, that I have become far more hungry to produce new work and it seems I'm still working 24/7 processing my thousands of images taken thru the year.

Good for you on your project. Share a photo of it eh?
  • This is really a continuation. After finishing the unit I had to paint the whole kitchen but am free again, at last!
