Did anyone participate Castle Rock Artfest in CO Sep. same weekend of
Saint Louis?
It is rated #74 at the Art Fair source book for Contemporary crafts,
but it was rated # 464 last year and not much better before.
Any info will be much appreciated.

Sorry for the delay, I found Castle Rock to be a decent show last year.
-My sales were better than I did at Aspen, even with horible weather the first day which sent people scrambling.
-Load-in and Out were above average, you could drive to your booth; and at least in our parking lot (by the library) everyone was quite civil and accomidating to one another.
-I had few die hard high end buyers through who frequent this show for they feel that the quality of work at the show is very high, (they specifically said they enjoyed it better than Cherry Creek, I've never been to that festival so I can't make the comparision).
-Weather; It can be bad. Thunderstorms and high winds are quite posible. As long as you a prepared you and your artwork should be just fine, but be prepared.

I got my rejection for St. Louis, and so I applied to Castle Rock for another year.

    I hope this helps.

  • I'm looking at Castle Rock, too, since it would be a local show for me. There's a lot of money in that area. It sits on the south end of the Denver Metro area near Castle Pines and the Tech Center. My only concern is the mandatory "donation" of an artwork to their silent auction. I'm not sure how I'd feel if I was out trying to sell my work at a price I set and then had someone walk away with a piece for a quarter of the price because they won it in the auction. I had that happen to me once before in a different type of venue and it really frosted my buns.

Anyways, just know that if you're coming in from out of town that there are plenty of hotel rooms & restaurants out Castle Rock way, but don't expect them to be cheap. Also, there's an outlet mall in town right off of I-25, so crowds could be good sized but mixed with bargain shoppers.

    Good luck!
