I am a jeweler and I am trying to decide whether to do Amdur Lincolnshire. Does anyone know how the traffic and sales were in 08? I'm also considering Amdur Millenium Pk, Gold Coast and Glencoe? Which ones are best? This is my 1st show season and I really need advice. Thanks.

Just wanted to say that Rona and I did 3 Amdur shows in 2009 (this was our first time doing Amdur shows). We did Gold Coast, Art at the Glen, and Port Clinton. Of these, Port Clinton was by far the best. Upscale, enthusiastic crowd, and definitely seemed like a community event (lots of customers seemed to be running into poeple they knew).
Regarding the number of shows in the same area . . . we got the impression that people from one suburb of Chicago don't necessarily go to shows in the other suburbs (maybe because there is quite a bit of sprawl out there).
It's a 13-hour drive for us, and Port Clinton conflicts with Howard Alan's Shadyside show this year, which is closer to home. So we're trying that one for the first time.
The deadline to enter the 2009 shows has passed, so the soonest you would be able to participate is in 2010.
But I would also like to know the differences between the Amdur shows, and if some draw different types of crowds than others. (I'm doing Cantigny and Promenade as a first time Amdur exhibitor this year) My medium is wood.

I have already been accepted to these shows but am deciding which ones out of them to do. They are expensive and I thought doing 4 or 5 of them would be too many when there are other shows out there also. I'm sure that artists do better at some compared to others. Any help out there?

We have not done Amdur shows for several years. We probably did 6 or so of them in 2004 to 2006. The best was a first year show in Glen Town. I'm not sure what they're calling it now, but there were only 3 people selling jewelry, so we did fairly well. Plus the booth fee was reasonable at that time. The next year was more typical of an Amdur show. We made expenses and then some, but not nearly enough for the five hour drive. Besides Glen Town, we did Cantigny, Lincolnshire, Buffalo Grove, and at least one other whose name escapes me. Of those, Buffalo Grove was easily the worst, a lot of it due to the hot hot weather. Very few sold well at the show. Cantigny was very pleasant due to the grounds and the easy load-in, load-out. Money wise it was so-so...
How was Lincolnshire? Were sales bad because there were no people or because people weren't buying?

It was so-so. It wasn't bad all around, but I don't think anyone got rich, either. Oh, I remember now, Sunday was pretty much of a loss (not that we ever do very well on Sunday) because of the weather. It was gloomy and rainy all day until the last hour when the day turned beautiful. They said we could stay if we wanted when closing time came, but we were ready to get out of town.
