I just had an email exchange with a company telling me they would sell me 20,000 names of attendees to an upcoming art show. When I asked them where the data came from, they said "ticket sales". Funny, because the show is free!! I never got a reply.....
If you are looking to purchase data from a reputable data company, here are some questions you can ask to ensure that the data is legitimate:
- How was the data collected?
- Can you provide details on the data source and methodology used to obtain the data?
- What kind of data is included in the list?
- How recent is the data?
- How accurate is the data?
- Can you provide references or case studies of other clients who have successfully used the data?
- What is your process for updating the data?
- Can I sample the data before purchasing?
- Is the data compliant with relevant laws and regulations, such as GDPR?
- What is your process for ensuring the data is not fraudulent or fake?
I hope you find this useful and it saves you a couple of hundred bucks!
Cheers!
