I’ve been looking at vendors for business insurance, and have some questions. In my search the same names keep coming up repeatedly: ACTinspro, RLI, and Selective. First off, are there any others I should look at? I may talk to my homeowner’s insurance (State Farm) too, but I’m not sure what they can offer.
Second, what kind of coverage should I be looking at? Liability is foremost. That’s really my whole reason for getting it. I’m doing a show that requires coverage, and that is spurring the decision, which has been on my mind for a while anyway, chiefly because storms are getting worse and worse. Though I am scrupulous about weighing my canopy, bad things can still happen under extreme conditions. But I plan to get coverage for my season, not just that show.
Are there different kinds of liability coverage?
As far as coverage of my work: I am a jeweler, and even though I only work in silver and base metals, I expect that coverage of my inventory would be costly and have requirements that would be difficult to meet, such as an inventory before each show. But if I’m wrong, please tell me.
I only work for part of the year, May to October. Does anyone have coverage for part of the year?
Anything you can tell me that would help me to be well informed when I pick up the phone would be helpful. Thanks.

We have helped numerous Art Fair Insider visitors with obtaining insurance coverage for their Home-Based Craft Businesses. We previously operated under the RLI name. We are now offering the RLI Home Business Insurance Policy under the name of Lindbergh Insurance.
Need coverage for your Business Property at home, in transit OR while at a show? Need General Liability coverage for a show? Basic Coverage that includes Property and General Liability starts at around $200 for the year!

Can a few more people address the question of liability of damage to other people's property and work?
Thanks,
David
Bodily Injury and Property Damage to a third party is covered under general liability. For example, if your booth blows over and hits someone else or someone else's property causing damage to them, that should be covered with a General Liability policy. That time of claim would be covered under the ACT Insurance policies.
Thanks, Ross. That's a big thing to think about.
If you are a member of an arts association there are usually insurance deals. I have mine through Hartford. It's about $500 a year and it allows 10,000 replacement for theft or damage. If I need to cover some show I can print a coverage letter online at no cost and 1mil of liability.

I ended up going with ACTinspro. The State Farm option was a close second. I don't exhibit year round, only from May to October; and the former let me buy 2 (back to back) 3 month policies that covers my season. If I did show year round I would have gone with State Farm.
I made a spreadsheet when I compared, then promptly forgot all the details as soon as the decision was made :)
Thanks for choosing ACT!! www.actinsurance.com
