I sell photographic prints of Beach scenes and want to see some ideas on how to add decorations to make my 10x10 tent more welcoming. I will be mostly outdoors.

Anyone have any links to photos I could view or ideas you would share?

Thanks!

Joseph

  • I know it's been a couple weeks since you posed your questions Joe.  I had anticipated more replies by now.  I love the photos Connie posted.  I also enjoyed the link with ideas for nontraditional art booths.

I love the idea of using things as displays that work with what I sell.  Often dh and have 'props' that get at thrift stores, flea markets, etc. that can be used as displays such as trunks, tables I've refinished and such.  We always mark them for sale as well.  Don't get me wrong, the shows I do are NOT flea markets or thrift sales.  I just like looking for props/display pieces at those kinds of stores.  The furniture found there is often made quite well, and is often solid wood ... at least that is what I look for, solid wood, sturdy metal, etc.

My shelving is not like what I see in a lot of photos here.  We got some metal decorative shelves from Hobby Lobby and they store/transport flat.  They add some color and texture and a good vibe to my booth.  They blend in really well.

I know many of you are 2-d artists and use propanels or mesh walls for displaying your art.  God bless you.  I am thankful that I don't have to use that!  LOL  To me propanels and mesh are certainly functional but without any character!  (very big grin!)

I am all about creating a vibe and emotional response that makes people want to stay longer in my booth.  My reasoning is if they respond positively to as they first step in before they really get to look around, then they will stay longer.  A longer stay means I have more potential to sell!  That is what we want right, to sell?!

If I can get some photos of my booth off my phone to post here I'll come back and post them.

    • Cindy, I'm looking forward to your posted images. I know you compete in a different arena from the big FINE art shows -- but really we're all in the same boat here, expressing creativity and hoping others appreciate it even as we enjoy creating it. I still love art fairs, but do miss the varied display options that used to be more prevalent. SHOW US!

      • I saw the booth photos in the other post of Connie's. And remembered that when booths were more primitive, I had painted my shelving a light terra cotta, and had the same color cover on my table for a southwest look.  Is there a way that you can change your overall booth color to a beach color- sand maybe? With aqua accents.

  • Take a look at Pinterest. I just clicked in and looked for "art fair booths" ... I like the idea of branding your booth with something that promotes the theme of your work. One of the things that has been lost in this day of manufactured components for booths is the creative side of showcasing. Sometimes not good, other times definitely adds to your uniqueness. I'm thinking of upscale stores here with a definite color scheme, overall feel. I was in a vintage store yesterday in Carlsbad that made it even more fun to be there because of accessories, styling, layout. Not a lot you can do in a 10 x 10, but definitely doable.

A quick browse on my computer grabbed these images. The first one I took at the St. Louis Art Fair some years ago. Matt Naftzger makes jewelry from recycled metals and his booth reflects that.

This one show Meg Harper at the Sedona Arts Festival -- totally themed booth and style. Part of the reason people attend art fairs is the possibility for having a new experience every ten feet.

Let me know what you discover if you can, Joe.

Oh -- and a few years ago I posted a blog on the site from a visit I made to the Krasl Art Fair in St. Joe, MI, "How do you Like this Booth? I Made it Myself."

  • I wouldn't add anything to your booth that will take away from your photography.
