Dana, you didn't say what your media was, but based on my past experience and that of many other artists I've talked to who have done Austin, you should be aware that - checkin and setup can run very late at night, since everyone has to form a single line; there is a "death valley" area for some artists where the public won't find you; the local economy hasn't really returned from the dot-com heydays; the art show people don't treat the artists with much respect. And, it's about a 2,000 mile roundtrip from CO. If you were doing another show in TX the weekend before or after, you might give Austin a try. The city does have great music and BBQ!
For three years in a row, my booth was placed next to the bandstand; it didn't matter where I requested a booth location upon acceptance. The third time, I told them that unless they found a location away from the bandstand (in TX, bandstand music plays the loudest, most raucous, and most cacaphonous of any other states art show music venues), I would leave the show. They did, I had decent sales, and I got rejected the next year. And I won't go back!
