Has anyone participated in this show. I applied to the show by the April deadline and got in but the show extended the applications to July 17th. According to my Zapplication shopping cart the booth fee payment deadline is 7/31/2011...but, I received an email that says if I don't pay the booth fee by 7/15/2011 I will forfeit my place. There was not any 'rolling' or 'ongoing until full' information when I applied.

Seems kind of strange to me~

Any comments guys? I am thinking maybe I shouldn't exhibit at this show.

  • I figured I would post a short report on this thread since it has already been started.

This is really more of a festival then an art show.  The show has many obstacles out of the directors control that limits its potential.

    How is that for short?

    • True it's definitely a family festival - but there are buyers at this show. Unfortunately the mid-90s heat and unrelenting sun on Saturday pretty much reduced the show to a one-day 4 hour show on Sunday. I did sell enough on Sunday to cover fees plus a small profit and if the one contact I made on Saturday comes through with what we talked about it will end up as a decent show. But I doubt that I'll do it again next year.
  • Thanks for the new insight concerning this show. My initial question was one of concern due to the way the flow of the acceptance policy seemed to be going. There were, for me, flags going up so I had to ask about the show. Due to the economy, I have been adding shows that I have been unfamiliar with. I am doing 3 shows for every 1 I used to do to try to maintain the business. I have been doing shows for 18 years and is is ROUGH out there right now. Thanks and I hope all of you do well this weekend. I am in Nashville, close to my house doing the National Folk Festival.

    • Totally know where you are coming from Susan.  This show is very close to where I live and has cheap booth space, so easy for me.  If I had to add travel expenses then I don't know if I would be doing this show.
  • Susan, this answer is obviously too late to make a difference to you but I did this show last year and it is not a buy/sell show. It's a small show (around 60 booths) but the quality was pretty good overall and attendance was steady. It's in a high income area of town and I had a decent show. I don't know what the deal was with moving the deadline (I've been seeing that with several other shows this year) and requiring your fee before the deadline, but I do know that it's an "honest" and well run show. I'm doing it again this year so we'll see if it's changed.
    • Hey Barry,

I  will be doing Arts on the Creek this weekend as well.  #37 I hope to see you there.

This will be my first show since my summer hiatis, so I need to get my art show muscles back ;)

I was going to do Marietta this weekend, but another artisit that did Creek show last year convienced me into switching.  I do have many clients in the Johns Creek area.  I have for the past 10 years.  So I know that people here do buy art.  This is one of the highest income areas in America.  I did attend the show last year just to say hi to some artist friends.  There is an area for some  b/s stuff, like Cutco, but not cheap b/s.  The b/s was over with the sponcer tents in another area.  There was no confusing the two.  The biggest negative IMO for this show is there are no trees, so it can get hot on Labor Day weekend.  Extending the deadline did worry  me some, but it is going to be a  great show!!!

      • Yea there is a "commercial" section but like you said it's completely separate from the art booths. It can get hot there (but then so can Marietta if you're out on the street in the sun!) My experience last year was a steady crowd-  although rarely crowded - and definitely some buyers.

I'm #12 - stop by if you get the chance.

  • From what I've heard, don't touch this show with a 20ft pole!  Lots of buy/sell and little shopping occurring.
    • I went with my gut and declined the invitation. When I got a letter that wanted me to pay the booth fee BEFORE the formal app deadline(can you believe that?)I knew it was not for me.
      Thanks~
  • That sounds strange to me Susan. For a show to extend the application deadline sometimes could mean that they didn't get enough submissions to fill the show. Then for them to require those already accepted to pay by a pre-mature deadline could signal that they are in need of the funds. That would alarm me. If you are local to the area and the expenses aren't too bad for you, i say go for it. But if you have to travel far, i would reconsider. But that's just me.
