I was just accepted into the Nassau County Art Museum Show on Long Island, and they want a deposit and booth fee check post dated. I then saw today that they extended the deadline to apply on Zapp! What that all about? Makes me feel that they did not fill the show, and Ithought I read that they only have 100 artits in the show period.
Makes me wonder if it is a show worth doing, the demographics are right and its close for me, and Im town the weekend before. But it's another $1000 for a double, and fees are adding up. Anyone done that show?
The other aspect of this that I find annoying is when a show extends deadlines DESPITE having placed artists on a waiting list. I think Munks referred to this practice recently as "sodomy," and that sounds about right. It would seem only right that if a show hasn't filled, that the artists on the wait list would be invited before a deadline is extended, wouldn't it? Or am I missing something?

At least if they continue this practice......and they will, people who get in after the deadline should be put on the wait list.
I am still newish to applying to a lot of shows, so far though, I have not looked twice at a show which extended their deadline, I always assumed, that if they can't get enough artists to fill the show by the original deadline, not enough artists are interrested which tells me that those artists not applying know something I dont, like this show is not worth applying to.
I also never applied to shows where the deadline to apply is only a week before the show starts.
I every once in a while see Deadline until show is full, havent made up my mind about that one yet, seems honest though.
I agree. They expect you to make a deadline! They should keep their own as well. I've seen this on the increase the last two years. Its money plain and simple. The number of app's did not meet the dollar goal. They can tell you that not enough "quality" artists applied-Bull crap! Now in some cases maybe they did not even get enough to fill the spaces and if thats the case maybe they should not be having the show, but I think thats rare. More for booths. More for app's. More More More. And then treat you poorly at the show. Nice.

I agree with you all of the way, that extra money in their pockets (especially the chamber of commerce's) pocket helps them a lot. You take 35 multiply it by and extra hundred or two helps them out. If they accept them that is even more in their pockets, how do I know, I quit the chamber.
