Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair, in the park, in the heat! This is only the second year I have done this show and I have to say it was hotter than last year on Saturday…104 degrees.
The show started at 10 with most of us looking like we were ready for a wet t-shirt contest!
To my surprise there was a light but steady flow of people on Saturday. There were a few spaces where Artist didn’t show, I am assuming it was due to the heat. I had an empty spot next to me and it worked out just fine, letting people view my work from both sides of my large display unit. Sales were good for me the first day despite the heat. We were up near the road and every so often we would get a bit of breeze for about 30 seconds. Everyone would stop what they were doing to enjoy the breeze then continue once it stopped. Around 4 pm I felt the temperature stating to drop, not much but within an hour it was down to 98. By time I got home, an hour away and closer to the water is was down to 82.
Sunday it was an absolutely beautiful day around the mid 80’s most of the day. The park was crowded with people ready to purchase. There was a light breeze, happy shoppers and dozens of huge dragonflies darting and guiding above the tents. I made almost triple what I did on Saturday, and made a big sale after the close of the show.
I know I have only done this show two year, but they bring in a good crowd from all over. On Sunday afternoon there were several people that worked at the nearby hospital walking the show. One lady told me she decided to come over after seeing the tents setup and knowing it was cool enough to walk around outside. Yes, 82 can feel cool when it has been in the upper 90’s and 100’s for weeks.

Shhhh, Chris. This is one of those secret shows we don't want to tell anyone about. A sweetie, for sure.
Thanks for the review Chris, I'm so glad people came out and bought even in the heat. Congrats on good sales!
