I know Illinois and Wisconsin have them, but I have been unable to locate ones for Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, or Minnesota. Or maybe it is just that my search terms are not revealing them. Anyone have some links to share? Thanks!

Jacque, What I’m looking for are the smaller fairs that often aren’t listed in paid publications. I have had better luck finding those by state. The bigger (or more famous) shows can have bigger hassles as well, and after 25 years of doing this, I’m looking for the “Kinder Gentler” art fair. I’m physically fit, no problems there: but the hassle factor looms ever larger. I actually brought a friend along (paid, too) to a show last year as my “turf negotiator.” The year before I had been made miserable by a neighbor haranging me for 8 hours over the storage behind my booth. (I never exceed my space, she thought my bins and stuff were unattractive). I can’t make nice to customers and hear someone badmouthing me at the same time. I find if a show is a big investment of time and booth fee a lot of artists are so tense this is how it sometimes comes out. Whereas at a small show they can act more like nice people enjoying their day outdoors having pleasant conversations with patrons and fellow artists.
I know Indiana and Ohio's cultural offices used to produce these. Have you looked at the State websites?
Linnea The book you want is Midwest Art Fairs, reasonable priced, it covers North Dakota, Sourh Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois & Wisconsin. you can get the book, twice a year, internet, or both.
What I want is something for Omaha. and what book do you get for Illinois?
thanks, Jacque
The Illinois one is put out by the Illinois Arts Council. www.illinoisartfairdirectory.org. They used to put out a printed one, but no more. Not the easiest site to navigate but it’s something.
