I am a photographer and this is my first year applying to Art Fairs.  The applications for some Art Fairs require a photo of "work in progress". I don't know what they want from a photographer.  Any advise???

  • They are protecting themselves as best they can. It is another hoop to jump through for anyone who is trying to sneak in with buy/sell. We used to do a lot of studio work, so we'd have an image of my husband shooting in his studio with the props around and other things to show "I am doing this."

    • Thanks Connie.  After Larry responded I gathered up some framing materials, put my camera on a tripod and self timer mode and took some pictures with me doing some framing.  I think I have some images I can use.

      • I see stuff like this and have to shake my head at how they think this is going to prove anything, particularly for photographers. I'd have to bite my tongue as I would prepare a set of shots for this with these following scenarios;

        1. shot of self with camera on tripod and peering intently into viewfinder
        2. shot of removing memory card from said camera
        3. shot of self sitting at PC and plugging in said card
        4. shot of self at PC with screen image of PS panel
        5. shot of self standing at printer removing a print
        6. shot of self cutting a matte or assembling a matte and print
        7. shot of self beaming and holding up a framed print

        None of this proves anything except that you at least know the steps to go through. Things like this still don't stop the buy/sell brigade. The guys with the baseball stadium shots I guess are still making the rounds after buying the files from the original photographer who retired several years ago. All they have to do is to attend a minor league game somewhere and get a shot of themselves standing up with a camera and a baseball field in front of them.

  • Could be anything from a picture of you out in the field taking pictures to you in your studio matting and framing. It's something usually asked on applications in lower quality or more crafty shows. Part of the weeding out buy sell.
