  • I do believe the Vail Show is now that weekend.  I did it in 2008 and it was very good for me even though I missed a day due to illness (luckily I was set up the day before and they were kind enough to let me stay in the show)  I would love to do this show again if I could fit it into my schedule.  I know they thought this weekend would bring in more vacationers because it's closer to the 4th of July.  Not everyone did great though.  My work is mid range priced and I sold most pieces between $50 and $120.

Lodging can be expensive in the area though.

    • There are now two Vail shows, but neither of them are run by Howard Alan.  Were you thinking of Beaver Creek?  And what HAE does in Florida doesn't always wash in Colorado, since I've done his shows in both states.  Artists who bring Florida-style work to CO don't always do that well, the West is more into warm western colors and motifs, not seascapes and pink and coral colors or hyper metallic artwork.
      • That makes sense.  I am sure whether you sell at a show depends on what you are selling (as long as there are buyers there.)  Where is Beaver Creek?  I have never heard of it.  How are the Vail shows now?
        • You have to troll ZAPP for the Vail shows.  One is already past deadline, the other one is coming up.  Beaver Creek - use Google, it's west of Vail.
          • Thanks Michael, I will do that.
            • Pls. explain Beaver Creek is in an indoor/outdoor mall with several levels and you have to walk up steps to set-up and what did you mean by the ice rink? I'm just looking for a 2nd show to combine with another show in the area that could possibly pick up an extra $2000. Would Boulder or Beaver Creek fit into this category or is it a total waste of time. I'm a jeweler and I already applied to both shows. I do not want to walk up steps or dolly far. Is the Boulder show off the beaten path?
  • As Michael stated, my understanding is that once you send your money in for a HAE event you will not get it back if you cancel. However, you can apply it to another one of his events, so it isn't gone. We had a credit for over $800 a while back and were able to use it up.
    • Thats a relief to know.  How long will they keep a credit for you to do a different show?  Do his shows usually bring in a large crowd?  Anything else you can tell me about his shows.  I want to try for some in Florida next year. - Thanks, Vic
      • Hi Vic, I do most of Howards Florida shows and I can tell you he really brings out the crowds. His advertising this year includes highly visible billboards, large illuminated directional signs on major highways as well as his usual tie ins with local tv and print. I will say though that the Florida market can be picky with so many shows to pick from you have to have what they want, but it seems to be that way at most shows now.
        • Hi Lori,

Thanks for that info.  Any info on what he is looking for in a booth shot?  The instructions say to show the tent.  Of course, my current booth shot shows only a little of the tent.  Are there a lot of returning artists at his shows?  I am interested in Los Olas right after New Year.  We have a condo nearby so that makes it better.-  Thinking about Jupiter too.
