The good news: one of the shows that spawned the whole art fair movement in Michigan is returning to Detroit. Were you at the Palmer Park Art Fair in the 1970's? I'd bet I met you there. This is a beautiful city park that is in the heart of an area of huge homes. The whole area is being rejuvenated and Mark Loeb who runs the Royal Oak Clay, Glass and Metal Show is leading the charge to make this happen again.
When: May 2-4, 2014
Here's a little story from the Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20140122/ENT01/301220097/1361/Palmer-Park-Art-Fair-returns-May-2-4
That is where we met John Long, Janet Bailey, Simon and Joy Tarasiewicz, Don Nedobeck, Ken and Sharon Pellar, Susan Wright, Dee Segula and many more Michigan artists, some of them no longer with us and some still making the art happen. Check it out.

Looks like they are rolling out the promotion in the Detroit media early. Here's another story from the MotorCity Blog with lots more details: http://motorcityblog.blogspot.com/2014/01/future-return-of-detroits...
Sorry - I was invited to the Penguicon that weekend. I'll be in Southfield... Hopefully the gang at the Penguicon understands my art...
I wasn't there but a friend of mine, passed away several years now, used to tell stories about doing fairs in California back in the late 60's and early 70's where the tents would form a ring to block off an inner court, circling the wagons as it were. Everyone camped out in their tents and would have campfires in the circle and party most of the night. It sounded like a wild and fun time had by all ;-)
