Wanted to know, what are most artists doing for a receipt?
Trying to avoid a printer for the moment, I know the receipt can go into the customer's
e-mail.
Aside from that, does anyone issue a paper receipt that does NOT come from a printer.
Ok to do, or a big no-no?

Two-part carbonless forms, custom printed. 8 1/2 x 11", with three sections. Top section captures customer information, including zip code, phone number, email address. I'll get a shipping address if necessary. Part two carries information about the pieces they bought, price, edition and print numbers. Part three is a COA with information about the printing process, limited editions, etc. I usually ask for email address and zip to target marketing messages. If I'm shipping a piece, of course I'll capture an address too. The form also have check boxes to indicate method of payment (cash, charge, check) and whether the piece was a gift.
NCR Forms (Blue Goose Graphics) in Ohio is a good source for custom multi-part carbonless forms. Quick, affordable, good service.
I was going to use my old swiper slips, but my husband printed up some receipts at work for now.
Going to the Allentown Arts Festival this weekend after a few years of being gone from there.

I don't do hard copy receipts. I run everything through Square including cash so I don't have to figure out the tax and use the options in Square for email or text. This also keeps track of my inventory. Have only had one person ask for a hard copy and did what Amy did, back of business card.
I use 2 page NCR receipt books from Walmart which are about $3.00 for a pack of three. My accountant told me two years ago to be sure to have numbered receipts or a register tape. He had just finished representing someone in an audit who has a similar business to ours.
I also use the standard 2 copy carbonless paper receipts. I stamp the receipts before the show with my business name stamp. My wife fills out the receipt with image title, size, and number while I bag up or package the photos for the customer. I like Greg's idea of getting the customer info also, if they are willing.
I always use a receipt written on one of the 5x7 receipt books that makes a carbonless copy...one for the customer and one for me. These receipt books are cheap, numbered and are available at office supply stores, Walmart and are great for my records also.
I always ask the customer to fill it in with their name, address and email...99% of the people gladly fill it in...
I write a receipt on the back of a business card if someone wants a hard copy
