Another newbie

Thanks Larry for the direction.

I'm transitioning from a 25 year commercial photography/design/advertising studio owner, and long unemployment after outliving forty-two clients, to forced early retirement and regaining the creative passion that got me started. Art fairs seem like the perfect venue, especially since it can combine my passions for photography, digital graphics and New England. Now, if only I can transfer my commercial experience to the fine art world. Remains to be seen, but I look forward to the new challenge.

  • Welcome to the art fair world David, not real sure how "perfect" it may be in your transition, as you'll learn from the many posts here on art shows, they can be as finicky and unpredictable as your past customers. Your passion will help greatly as that's probably what keeps us all going when the business end doesn't always work out. Good luck.
    • Thanks Robert - it has to beat twenty-two client bankruptcies, twenty additional client closings/mergers/relocations, massive theft of intellectual property copyright infringement by a desperate competitor and identity theft traced back to a dishonest employer's business practices - a cheated vendor, the combination of which destroyed our business and kids' financial futures. All true, and only part of the story. As is said of many interests, the worst day at an art fair is better than the best day in a windowless cubicle under florescent lights. Passion for photography and the arts started my 25 year business; ending it with the same passion seems appropriate.
      • Jeez David, sounds like an art show with high winds and hail may be a relaxing treat for you from what you've been through.
        • Yep - I look forward to it.
