  • Proceed with caution. This show does maintain a very good reputation (3rd behind Phil and Smith by my measure) for fine craft. I did it in 2010 and am not even applying this year. The demographic is predominantly old female. If you sell wearable fiber or jewelry then go for it. There is some of the best fine craft in the country at this show, which does make for a very pretty and prestigious show. There were also a lot of folk in attendance that just happened across the show because they were in the area with no real appreciation for what they were seeing. They have a lot of room for improvement in getting the right demographic through the door. They need to attract younger, acquiring, couples. I do very well in the Chicago area, my customers just weren't there. Many of my 3D peers who did the 2011 show said they didn't even fare as well as in 2010. This is one of those shows that had better start delivering the goods pretty quickly. I am very hopeful that they can do it, but only time will tell.

  • This is a primo event -- low on the radar among 2D artists, but so fabulous for fine craft. Definitely worth an application and a visit. I'm thinking of attending it this year and will report back.

    • Well Connie,  if you go on Friday I will meet you there.  I have always meant  to go and never made it.  Artists that used to do Port Clinton do the ACE instead.  Lots of wonderful craftsman north of  Chicago that weekend.

      • I've always wanted to go, Geri, and never made it because I was working on Arts, Beats & Eats during that period, but now it can happen! I've been to Port Clinton, we exhibited in that show and have a good idea of what it is all about, so that wouldn't have to be done for me.

        • Thanks all.

  • Thanks Larry. You are certainly a wealth of information.

  • It's one of the top fine craft shows in the country. Maybe only topped by the Smithsonian and Philadelphia Museum of Art shows. I don't know anything about it other than I work with a high end jeweler and she applies to it every year.
