Hi everyone.  I have been doing art shows for 4 years now as a photographer but over the last year I have starting transferring my images on to wood.  My question is would the images of my artwork attached still fit the photography category or should I start try mixed media for jurying?

Thanks for you input!

  • If the image is applied to a wood substrate during the printing and it remains a flat 2D image, then it is still a single media process. If the wood substrate is treated or turned into a basrelief through a CAM type process, then it would legitimately be a mixed media process. An image printed on canvas, paper, or plastic is still a photo despite the variety of base material, and the same thing applies with the wood. Now should you do some serious manipulation of the wood substrate such as a sculptural treatment, then it would be a mixed media piece. That's just my own opinion and some one else's mileage may vary.
