Hi all! I applied to the 57th Street Art Festival. The decline/accept letters were suppose to be issued on March 2nd and the deadline to pay is March 30th. I have received neither letter yet. I emailed the show and haven't gotten a response from anybody. Has anybody out there applied and received any notification yet? thanks, Penny

  • I did 57th Street for a number of years. One year they never even deposited my booth fee check! (This was back in the olden days before Zapp.) I can't remember how I knew I was in the show since back then that was sometimes your first clue that you had gotten into a show. Zapp. has made some things easier.

    • One year I forgot to apply! I assumed I was in as always, but I never sent in my application form or booth fee, because I had just moved and the show had sent the app to my old address (in spite of informing them of address change). As I was packing my van to go to the show, I thought I should check to see what my booth number was. But my name was nowhere on the list of artists. This was back when the show was great for me, and I started panicking. It was impossible to get a hold of anyone in any way. In pure despair I called an old friend who had never done this show before, and she asked if anybody on the committee had ever been my customer, and if I might have their information. I thought back, and sure enough, a few years earlier one of the committee members had ordered something from me, and I still had her phone number. I was able to get a hold of her, explained my situation, and I was in.

She has since passed away, so I'm out of luck this time....

  • I have done the show for almost two decades, and once you're in, you're in until your category is rejuried - I think every ten years (?).

I was re-accepted a couple of years ago, but last year I decided to skip. I didn't know if I needed to re-jury again this year or not, so I emailed, but got no response. I applied like a new artist.

I have not heard anything yet either. I talked to another artist who was in the exact same situation as me (skipped last year and reapplied this year), and he hadn't heard anything either as of mid-March.

I really need to settle on a summer schedule, so I emailed a few days ago to ask what was up, but I still haven't heard anything.

This show used to be pretty much impossible to contact, but it got better after the invention of Zapplication. Now they seem to have fallen back to old habits.

Still, the show can be very good, and it's easy to do. (I am in ceramics.)

  • For what it is worth, I apllied and was accepted for glass last year and I emailed the show several times to find out what other glass makers have done the show. Never got an answer and I decided to not do the show.
    • Well, I appreciate your input! I emailed the show again, and no response. makes you wonder about a show that won't even acknowledge you.
