Does anyone have any info about this event? Ranking, ease of load in/out, treatment of artists, etc? Is it run by a production company or is it volunteer? Thanks in advance!

Amy, you are a star, helping out here with all of these answers. I thank you also.
We did this show for many years a fair time ago. On Kimbark, facing the school. Nice crowd attending who are actually pretty interested in the art! Reinvitations helped a lot in leveling out the surprises in the business, a show we could count on. Run by a volunteer committee who have a hard time keeping up with all the jobs, but do a decent job.
We got too tired to do the Saturday morning setup any more ...
I've enjoyed this show for the last two years and am definitely looking forward to going back, even though it means leaving my house before 5am to be ready by 10.
Good morning Amy! I'm so sorry, but I have yet another question about the 57th St. Fair. Where (if any) is there parking for a box truck? And by the way, if I could nominate you for some sort of "question answerer award", I would.

I just squeeze my stuff into an SUV so I haven't had huge parking issues. I know there are official lots available a few blocks south of the show but not sure if you can put a box truck there.
This is where the volunteers become frustrating. Their site claims to have a parking map up that is not really there. I would try emailing the organizers and see what they say. I know it is solvable because I've seen other trucks there.
The good news is that this is not the part of Chicago that is crazy difficult to park in. Sorry I couldn't help more on this one.
It is generally a good show, very crowded with many buyers. Ease of load in / load out ... eh. I've seen better and I've seen worse. No Friday setup so getting there early is helpful, I'm usually unloading around 6:00 and it's packed but civil. Load out is a little weirder because of the adjacent "community" show. Many people dolly to their vehicles.
This is a volunteer run community event. Again, better than many volunteer events. This will be my 3rd year and the pre-show communication is improving but is still not stellar. For instance, I have my booth number (642) but the booth map is not finalized/published yet.
Do they give you the code for next year at this year's show?

no, it shows up by email when they start accepting applications. It is also detailed on their Zapp page: "Each year, one quarter of the artists exhibiting in the previous year’s 57th Street Art Fair is asked to participate in the jury process. For the 2013 fair, artists exhibiting in the following media will be re-screened: Painting/Drawing, Sculpture, and Wood. Potentially 75 new exhibit slots in all categories will be determined through the competitive jury process. If you were a new artist in 2012 in these three categories, you do not have to re-jury. Artists who exhibited in all other categories in the 2012 fair are invited to participate in the 2013 fair."
